Uber-autumn birthday dinner for a friend. Butternut squash and white bean stew from Sweet Paul magazine. I didn't have white wine or peach preserves. And I knew the bacon wouldn't brown while mixed with leeks, and well, it didn't. You may want to cook it separately. It was very good, but I think it almost had too much going on - the subtlety of each ingredient got lost a bit. Still delish, and looks pretty! Pumpkin apple crumb cake via local blog, Everybody Loves Sandwiches. I added whole walnuts to the topping and I think it was much better that way. And if Hermann's Dark Lager isn't your favourite already, try it - there's no better beer for fall.
